The front loading mailbox manufacturer tells you that some houses and apartments have a drop slot in the door for receiving mail instead of a mailbox. The standard of qualified door receiving port is:

1. The opening measures at least 1 1/2" x 7".
2. The bottom of the slot must be at least 30 inches above the ground.
3. The top of the horizontal letter slot must be equipped with a hinged baffle.
4. The vertical letter slot should be hinged on the side opposite to the door hinge.
Front loading mailbox manufacturers tell you that for greater privacy, you can also install a mail drop cover on the inside of the door to prevent others from peeking into your home. Standards for door receiver covers are:
1. The area covered by the cover shall not extend beyond 2 1/16 inches inside the door.
2. When opening horizontally, the cover cannot protrude below the bottom of the outer mail slot.
3. The front loading mailbox manufacturer tells you that when opening vertically, the cover cannot exceed the outer mail slot plate on the same side as the door hinge.
